Seat Covers Glossary

What is meant by Coverking Custom Fit seat cover?
Coverking Custom Fit seat covers are designed to fit as good as the original upholstery. In fact, these covers fit so well that people often mistake them to be the original factory fitted upholstery. Custom covers can fit so well because they are made with the exact make and model measurements that are obtained from the automobile maker and then the data is fed to the computer for the designing. And so the final product is always precise.

What is a Semi-custom Fit seat cover?
As the nomenclature suggests, Semi-custom Fit covers are not as perfect as Coverking Custom Fit covers. These covers are also not good for vehicles that come with Side Airbag Safety features as they are not adequately provided to deal with the functioning of PIPS.

What is Neoprene?
Neoprene or Polychloroprene is a multi-utility material that is used mostly in making ‘wet suits’, laptop sleeves, car fan belts, electrical insulations, etc. Neoprene is also used by Coverking for making water resistant seat covers.

What is meant by “Friction” in the seat cover trade?
Friction is a term of Physics and acts as a factor that ruins automobile seat covers. Friction happens when there is chafing or rubbing between two similar or dissimilar materials coming into contact with each other. This contact causes heat to generate. And the heat thus produced often causes surface deterioration of either or both the materials.

What is Pelt?
Pelt in the upholstery trade indicates tanned or cured animal skin (usually from fox, beaver, raccoon or bear) that still has the animal hair, wool or fur attached to it. Pelt is often used in car seat covers in place of genuine fur which is far too expensive.

What is a Pink Slip?
It is an American slang and is used to refer to a vehicle’s Registration Document, more or less like the British Blue Book. The term is also linked with road races where the winner has the right to win the vehicle too. Losing one’s Pink Slip could tantamount to loss of the vehicle also.

What is Polyester?
Polyester is a sturdy and water-resistant synthetic material that was first prized by the disco community during the seventies. But today there are many applications of Polyester – we find it all around us. The material is also used by Coverking in making vehicle seat covers.

Universal Fit Covers
These covers are supposed to fit all and sundry, low-back or high-back bucket seats in any car or SUV, irrespective of the make, model or year of manufacture of the vehicle. However the fact is that, this is seldom the case. Universal covers never offer complete protection – they are either too tight or too loose.

UV or Ultra violet emission
UV rays are the rays of the Sun and such rays cause a lot of harm too when it comes to health, particularly skin diseases. Excessive exposure to UV also has a damaging effect to automobile upholstery. It is particularly dangerous for leather upholstery as UV dries up the leather’s oil content, leaving dry and lifeless. But fabric upholstery gets damaged too.
